Have you ever wished you had a filter for real life?
I have!! My absolute favorite app is SnapChat, Love, love, love the filters & how amazing my skin looks in the pictures!
I'm a skincare therapist, I have a Btech degree in Somatology from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT). I'm very passionate about skin & educating my clients on how to take care of their skin to get the results they're looking for.
One of my subjects while studying was Nutrition. I took it as a subject for all the 4 years of my Btech degree.
You cannot separate Nutrition & skincare at all! Our skin is a reflection of how healthy our bodies are. Think about a person who's chronically ill & what their skin looks like, or a person who drinks heavily & what their complexion might look like (phuza face)!! Our skin is also a detox organ so part of having a radiant, glowing complexion is leading a healthy active lifestyle.
I'm a mom of 3 boys and in 2017 I found myself drowning. I was working full time and juggling the kids, husband and the household. One of my children has special needs (Down's Syndrome) and I had to make sure that I'm on top of all his therapies and that he was progressing in his development.
I honestly was burning the candle from both ends and was not taking care of myself. Planning healthy meals was not easy and I would throw together whatever was available as I was working shifts. My skincare routine went completely out the window and I had a cabinet full of great products that I wasn't using.
I could see that my skin was becoming dull, tired and my skin tone was becoming uneven.
As a qualified skincare therapist, I knew what my skin skincare routine was supposed to be and what products I had to use to get a Clear, Even Toned Skin. The biggest challenge was fitting all the steps in and finding time for a full routine between juggling housework, a non verbal special needs toddler and a new baby.
I didn't like the way my skin looked and being a skincare therapist I'm trained to look out for flaws, so I stopped looking in the mirror. It got to a point that I had to rely heavily on make up for a glow and to cover up imperfections, I wasn't happy with that (make up can only do so much).
So I decided to simplify my skincare routine to fit my lifestyle. I looked for multi tasking products and devices so that I could take my 8 step skincare routine down to 3-4 steps depending on what my skin needed. I started using meal replacement shakes to supplement my meals so that my skin could get the nutrients it needed.
My skin loved me for it!! I regained my healthy glow, blemishes started to disappear and my skin tone evened out.
I felt confident in my skin again and when I started taking care of myself, I became a better mom as I had energy to tackle whatever my kids (literally) threw at me.
