Hi There!

Travelling can be very exciting, but it can also be stressful on our skin. When we travel, we often need to pack light due to weight limitations or airline restrictions on the amount of liquid we can carry. Adapting our skincare routine to fit these constraints while keeping our skin healthy is essential. Let’s dive into how to travel light and still maintain a glowing complexion, no matter where you go.

Best Skincare Routine For TravellingCabin Pressure and Dehydration

If you’re flying, the cabin pressure and recycled air can be incredibly dehydrating to your skin. Even if you’re travelling by bus or car, you might find yourself in a different climate that can affect your skin. Here’s what you need to know:

  1. Hydration is Key: Drink plenty of water before and during your journey. Avoid alcohol and caffeine, as they can dehydrate you further.
  2. Moisturize Well: Apply a hydrating serum or a rich moisturizer before your trip. Look for products with hyaluronic acid to retain moisture.
  3. Face Mist: A hydrating face mist can be a lifesaver. A quick spritz can refresh and rehydrate your skin during your travels.

Adapting to Different Climates

Travelling to different climates means adjusting your skincare routine accordingly. I live in Mpumalanga, which is humid and hot, so my skin rarely dehydrates here. However, the climate changes significantly when I travel to Pretoria or the Northwest Province. Pretoria is particularly dehydrating for my skin, while the Northwest is less drying but still requires extra care. Here’s how I adapt:

Hot and Humid Climates

  1. Lightweight Moisturizer: Use a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer to prevent clogged pores.
  2. Sunscreen: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to protect your skin from UV rays.
  3. Oil-Control: Carry an oil-control serum to manage excess shine.

Dry Climates

  1. Rich Moisturizer: Switch to a richer moisturizer to combat dryness and protect your skin barrier.
  2. Hydrating Serum: Layer a hydrating serum under your moisturizer for an extra boost of hydration.
  3. Barrier Cream:  Apply a barrier cream over your moisturiser to prevent transepidermal water loss and to support the barrier if your skin is sensitive/sensitized. SKOON Ruby Marine Barrier Recovery Face Balm Stick

Essential Skincare Products to Pack

When packing for a trip, you need to prioritize essentials that keep your skin healthy and glowing. Here’s what should be in your travel skincare kit:

  1. Cleanser: A gentle cleanser that removes dirt and makeup without stripping your skin.
  2. Moisturizer: Choose a versatile moisturizer suitable for different climates.
  3. Sunscreen: A travel-sized, broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30.
  4. Serum: A hydrating serum with hyaluronic acid or vitamin C for brightening and protection.
  5. Face Mist: A refreshing face mist to rehydrate your skin on the go.
  6. Sheet Mask: Pack a hydrating sheet mask for a mid-trip skin pick-up.

Final Thoughts

Travelling should be a joyful experience, not a stressor for your skin. By preparing with the right products and being mindful of the effects of different environments, you can keep your skin healthy and glowing throughout your journey. Remember, a little preparation goes a long way, and your skin will thank you for it.

Safe travels and stay radiant!
