Vitamin C is an antioxidant that is not only great for skin health, it also helps with pigmentation & ageing.  I want to go over the ingredients in skincare products that you should avoid mixing with Vitamin C.

If your concerns with your skin are pigmentation or ageing, then Vitamin C is an ingredient you can start including in your skincare routine.  It is a tyrosinase inhibitor, so it inhibits the production of melanin.

As an antioxidant, it fights free radicals that can lead to skin damage & premature ageing.  It also protects the skin against sun damage which can lead to premature ageing & pigmentation.

I offer a Free Skincare Routine Audit which can be done as a video call or via email.  I take a look at your skincare routine to see if it addresses the concerns you have on your skin.  So if you’ve been struggling with pigmentation or an uneven skin tone & are not getting the desired results, the Skincare Routine Audit will be perfect for you

Vitamin C can be used day & night in your skincare routine but certain ingredients clash with it.

What T Avoid Mixing With Vitamin CRetinol

Retinol is a very active ingredient & is great for pigmentation & ageing too.  The combination of retinol & Vitamin C is great for the treatment of pigmentation & ageing.

When using these ingredients together, it's best to use the Vitamin C in the morning & retinol in the evening.  If you layer them one after another it will cause irritation & sensitivity on your skin as they clash.

Benzoyl Peroxide

Benzoyl peroxide is typically used in the treatment of acne & is a very active ingredient.  Mixing Vitamin C with it in your routine will lead to skin irritation

It's best to use Vitamin C in the morning & Benzoyl peroxide in the evenings

Niacinamide

Niacinamide is also great to include in your skincare routine if you want to treat pigmentation.

When using niacinamide with Vitamin C, it's best to separate them by using one in the morning & the other at night.  When Vitamin C & niacinamide are mixed they produce nitric acid which is very irritating to the skin.

I'd suggest you use Vitamin C in the morning as it protects against UV damage, then use the niacinamide at night.

Exfoliating acids

Alpha hydroxy, beta hydroxy & poly hydroxy acids are our exfoliating acids.  They are important to include in your skincare routine when you're treating acne & pigmentation.

Vitamin C & the exfoliating acids are all acidic & will irritate your skin when they're layered.  It's best again to separate them by using Vitamin C in the morning & the exfoliating acids in the evening.

Vitamin C is an excellent product to add to your skincare routine.  It protects against UV damage and premature ageing, & it helps in the treatment of pigmentation.

When including it in your skincare routine be aware of what other ingredients are in your skincare routine as it will clash with retinol, niacinamide, benzoyl peroxide & exfoliating acids.
